After a lovely team dinner last night, the archers arrived ready to shoot in the second day of competition. Day 2 was a long day for our archers, the morning began with mixed team head-to-heads, followed by team head-to-heads and to finish off the day, the Scotland team participated in the Home Nations event.
For the mixed team head-to-heads, our archers were randomly paired up with one other archer from their bow type and age category. The newly assembled mixed teams were then split into tiers. The tier 2 matches took place first.
Hannah Wells shot in team ‘Dax’ in the Recurve U21 category and in the Recurve U18 category, Kristin Ward shot as part of team ‘Scotty’. Down the Compound end, we had Cairn Boyd in team ‘Brian’ who won the Bronze medal, Ellis White in team ‘Louis’ who won the Silver medal and Caitlin Orr shooting with Molly Joyce in team ‘Meg’ who topped the podium winning the Gold medal.
This was followed by the Tier 1 matches. In the Recurve U21 category we had Joshua Phillips and Luke Wheeler shooting in team ‘Animal’ who were drawn to shoot their first match against teammate Shay Boyd shooting in team ‘Cookie Monster’. Team ‘Animal’ won the match and have progressed through to the Gold medal match which will take place on Tuesday at the finals field.
In the Recurve U18 category, Zac Ibrahim shot in team ‘Picard’ who also won all of their matches and will shoot in the Gold medal match on Tuesday. Olivia Kendal shot in team ‘Cartman’ for the Compound Youth mixed team. In the Barebow Youth category, William Anderson shot in team ‘Haribo’ who narrowly missed out finishing in fourth place.
The team matches worked the same way but this time each archer was put into a team with two other archers from their bow type and age category. Luke Wheeler and Shay Boyd both shot in team ‘Carcofanix’. Unfortunately, they lost their first match. However, the team they were against were missing a team member due to overall numbers within the category, meaning they took on the highest ranked archer from team ‘Carcofanix’. As the highest ranked archer, Shay progressed on with the other team and they have won a place in the Gold medal match which will take place on Tuesday at the finals field. Joshua Phillips shot in team ‘Getafix’ who very narrowly missed out on the Bronze medal after taking it to a one arrow shoot off. Within the women’s Recurve U21 category, Hannah Wells shot as part of team ‘Touros’. Into the Recurve U18 Men’s category, Zac Ibrahim shot in team ‘Mudkip’. Kristin Ward also shot in a one arrow shoot off, unfortunately, missing out on progressing with the rest of team ‘Minior’ in the Recurve U18 Women’s team. Onto the Compound teams, Ellis White has won a spot in the Gold medal match on Tuesday with the rest of team ‘Marge’ in the U21 Men’s category. Cairn Boyd shot in the Bronze medal match today, winning the match with team ‘Maggie’ in the U18 Men’s category. Their bronze medals will be awarded during the medal ceremony on the finals field on Tuesday. Caitlin Orr and Olivia Kendal both shot in team ‘Grandpa’ for the Compound U18 Women’s category. The girls narrowly missed out on a medal finishing in fourth place. Within the U21 Compound Women’s category, Molly Joyce, shooting in team ‘Moe’, has also won a spot on the finals field on Tuesday in the Gold medal match. Our Barebow archer, William Anderson, shot in team ‘Cisco’ in the Barebow Youth category. Team Cisco will shoot on Tuesday in the Gold medal match on Tuesday as well.
Finally, to end a very long day of shooting, Team Scotland shot in the home nations event in the early evening. Our U21 Recurve team consisted of Joshua Phillips and Hannah Wells who finished in 5th place for their category. Zac Ibrahim and Kristin Ward made up the U18 Recurve team and finished in 3rd place receiving the Bronze medal during the medal ceremony held straight after the event. Representing Scotland in the U21 Compound team was Ellis White and Molly Joyce who finished in 4th place for their category. The U18 Compound team consisted of Cairn Boyd and Olivia Kendal who also finished in 4th place for their category. We were lucky enough to gain a new team member named Kaitlyn Mason who helped to make up a Scotland U21 Barebow team. Will and Kaitlyn successfully shot both of their matches winning them the Gold medal. We hope to see Kaitlyn in the Scotland top again in the future! Caitlin Orr was borrowed by Northern Ireland to help them form a Compound U21 team with Noah Doyle who managed to shoot their way onto the podium receiving the Bronze medal.
Of course, Fluffy was there supporting our archers throughout their long day of shooting and even made it onto the podium a couple of times! Now for some well earned rest, before individuals day tomorrow!
