Tournament Organisers Group

We are now recruiting for several new sub-group volunteer positions as we restructure and refresh the current Scottish Archery working groups. If you are passionate about archery and being part of a small team working in a specific area to develop the sport, then read on or get in touch for an informal chat – we would love to hear from you!


Purpose

The purpose of the Tournament Organisers sub-group is:

 

  • Responsible for overseeing Scottish Archery events, with a view to helping clubs host events. Particular focus on local SRE type events.

  • Identify venues that can comply with UKRS/WRS rules and find clubs to host at these venues.

  • Keep the bidding criteria for Scottish Archery events up to date and changing them when necessary.

  • Liaise with the Scottish Archery JLO to ensure that judges are allocated for each event and that the right grade of judge is present.

  • Work with the Workforce Development Officer to look at training for new judges and field captains.

  • Build up a volunteer network/database for Scottish Archery events so not all the same people are volunteering at each event.

  • Build partnerships with Archery GB Events Manager to look at hosting Junior Key Stages/National Tour Stages/National Events.

  • Ensure that Scottish Archery events do not run at a loss.

  • Work with the Head of Pathways to ensure the right number of events are being put on and to ensure they are the right format to ensure athletes can put in scores for representing Scotland.

  • Work with Head of Pathways/Director of Athlete Progression and the Pathway Programmes to support Squad Simulation Events to give adequate preparation for events such as Youth Festival/CACE/National Indoors

  • Look at new competition formats (inter-county between NA,EA,WA/Junior Scottish Tour/Scottish Festival etc…) to ensure growth of competitions at all levels from grass roots to experienced competitive archers.

 

 

Main Duties:

  • Attend and contribute to sub-group meetings

  • Contribute to the development of the sub-group action plan

  • Complete any assigned actions in the timeframe as required within the action plan that relate to the role held.

 

Specific Responsibilities

Specific roles we are currently looking for:

 

  • Club Liaison

  • Officials Liaison

  • Volunteer Coordinator

  • New Competition Formats

  • Trophy Officer


Experience

No previous sub-group experience is required.

 

Skills and Abilities

  • The ability to communicate ideas and to facilitate discussions.

  • Approachable

  • An ability to identify potential problems

  • Impartiality and fairness

  • Excellent time-keeping.

  • Excellent organisational skills

 

 

Time commitment

  • The average time commitment is 4 hours per month. This will include attendance at sub-group meetings (1 meeting every 4-6 weeks) and any actions assigned during meetings

  • All meetings will be held online via Teams.

 

Additional

This role is accountable to the Tournament Organiser Chair. Sub-group roles are non-

remunerated and will be undertaken in a voluntary capacity. The role is open to

members and non-members. The maximum time on sub-groups will be 3 years.

  • The successful applicant will be invited onto the sub-group after a successful selection process.

  • Once appointed, new volunteers will take part in the Scottish Archery volunteer induction process.
