Senior National Indoor Championships

After it’s cancellation in 2020 the National Indoors returned to Stoneleigh Park with a slightly reduced capacity in 2021. It was great to see another Scotland team having the opportunity to compete against the best in the UK.

Recurve

Jackie Fisher (Balbardie), Debbie Geddes (Lethen), Frank Hynds (Clyde) and Gilbert Jamieson (Balbardie) made up the Scottish recurve team for this competition finishing 2nd with a combined score of 2081. Individually Fisher finished 34th, Hynds 41st, Jamieson 58th. Debbie Geddes qualified for the individual head-to-head matches and finished 17th going out to the 8th seed Megan Havers.

Compound

Representing Scotland in the compound division were Kirsty Robb (New Century Bowmen), Stephanie Clason (Edinburgh University), Kevin Duncanson (Cleadon), and Alastair Shields (Ayr). The team finished the home nations match with a combined score of 2206 giving them 4th place. Individually Kirsty Robb finished 36th, Duncanson 35th, Shields 61st. Steph Clason qualified for the matchplay in 22nd place finishing 17th after going out to 11th seed Isabelle Carpenter.

Barebow

A new addition to the National Indoor Championships this year David Seez (eastern Area) and Carol-Anne Seez (Eastern Area) were the first barebows to represent Scotland at the Indoor Home Nations finishing a close second to England with a combined score of 978. Both barebows qualified for the individual knock out matches and made it to the quarter finals. David finished in 6th place going out to eventual silver medallist Rene Bekker, and Carole-Anne finished 5th after a close quarter final with Sarah Hake.

Congratulations to all Scottish Archery members who took part in the UK indoors. Particularly Sara Prieels (Edinburgh University) who won the Ladies Compound event repeating her victory from 2018 after a single arrow shoot off with Bayley-Rose Sergeant, and Rebecca Leigh (Aberdeen University) who finished 4th after pushing 2021 Olympian Bryony Pitman to 5 sets in a close semi final.
