Thank you to everyone that took part in the pilot programme for our Awards Scheme. It has been really useful to hear all the feedback and it has helped to shape the supporting documents and the scheme itself. Some of the changes from your feedback are:
- A short introduction video to explain how the awards scheme works
- All the rules are now in one guidebook
- At the back of the guidebook there are templates for certificates that clubs can use for the progress markers being achieved
- A poster that can be used on social media or printed out for display at club sessions
The new awards scheme has been introduced so members can earn awards and see yourselves progress within a club setting. This can be accessed within club time and potentially a lot quicker for newer members. Currently to earn nationally recognised progress awards you would need to wait until you entered a competition. By introducing awards in club time it also means if you have no interest in going to competitions, you can still see progression and gain some badges as you improve. It will allow members to progress at a pace that suits them, certainly during the pilot we saw some members really work hard to achieve some of the levels and were shooting scores at every club session, equally some members have decided to have a go every couple of weeks. The important thing to remember is that it should take time to progress, support can be found from coaches or experienced archers within clubs.
The scheme is focused on outdoor archery with a view to looking at an indoor version in 2021. There is a high chance that the majority of archery for the remainder of 2020 will be outdoors so we believe that now is the time to launch the new awards scheme and help keep club members focused throughout the winter months.
