Updates on new PVG legislation

5 Mar 2025

As you will be aware there is new PVG legislation which comes into effect on 1 April 2025.

This legislation requires all those in a regulated role to have a PVG, this is mandatory.   The roles which Scottish Archery currently have as regulated roles are:

  • Coach

  • Athlete Personnel Working with Children

  • Child Protection Officer

  • Volunteer Working with Children

  • Athlete Personnel Working with Adults at Risk

New PVG roles which we are lodging with Disclosure Scotland are:

  • Board/Committee Member

  • Officials

The above two are being added as there is a new criteria for PVG which comes into effect on 1 April 2025, which covers power and influence over children and this is detailed in the new legislation.     We have therefore considered that Judges, Field Captains and Tournament Organiser will now be required to have a PVG check if they are officiating at events which will attract U18s to enter.  Similarly Club Committees whose club actively promotes their activities to juniors will also require a PVG check.

The two above roles can’t be PVG checked until 1 April as that is when the legislation comes into force.   However we will be providing more information on the criteria to Clubs as we move closer to 1 April.   We are also working with Disclosure Scotland on the new regulated roles and await their official guidance around this.

If you have members of your Clubs that are carrying out regulated roles from the current roles we would ask that you submit PVGs for them as soon as possible as there will obviously be a massive amount of PVGs being submitted to Disclosure Scotland when the new criteria is added to regulated roles on 1 April.  This can be done through JustGo and information on how to do this is found on our website:

We would also ask if there are Club members who are no longer in a regulated role, or have left the Club and we have PVG’d them can you please let us know so we can delink them.

If you have any question on the above please let us know by contacting Jacqui Dunlop at safeguarding@scottisharchery.org.uk
