East Kilbride Archery Club support ClubSL Games

5 Jun 2024

Well done to the volunteer team of Duncan, Lauren and Martin from East Kilbride Archery Club who delivered Soft Archery over 2 days at the Primary 5 Hamilton ClubSL Games which was organised by Active Schools South Lanarkshire (SL).

Over the 3 days, 700+ P5 children participated in 17 different activities which included Soft Archery. All of them were delivered by 19 ClubSL affiliated clubs across South Lanarkshire.

The year 2024 marks 10 years since this event was first launched as part of Active Schools SL Glasgow Commonwealth Games legacy. The event was originally called Gateway to the Games, but at the heart of it has always been about clubs and bringing schools closer to what's available in their local communities. Over the years, they have seen 4000+ children attend these events and get to experience a wide range of activities. Some for the first time! This event has been supported by Hamilton Sports Council an amazing network of volunteer students, pupils, teachers & of course clubs.

Robert Clark, our Communities & Workforce Development Officer said when commenting on the event: ‘‘We would like to thank Duncan, Lauren and Martin from East Kilbride Archery Club who gave up their time to come and give young pupils a taste of archery with many commenting on how they had never participated before and really enjoyed it.  Also we appreciate Active Schools SL for approaching us initially to see if archery would like to be included in the games.  We hope this is the beginning of links between the club and the schools in the area which will improve opportunities for young people to access & enjoy archery as well as benefit the club long term.’’
