On Saturday, we held our first Eastern Area Junior, Novice and Intermediate League of the season. We had 15 people across 4 targets with archers travelling from across the area including Borders and central belt. The day ran from 13:00-15:00 using half a Portsmouth round (30 arrows) under competition conditions.
Our aim was to kickstart this project post-covid after previously running the league prior to COVID. This was targeted for beginners who have never competed before, giving archers a chance to do something out with the club environment and meet new people from other areas, making connections and enjoy competition in a more informal environment. There was also quite a few juniors as well as adults which was pleasing to see. We also had mix of bow styles – recurve, compound and barebow.
Everyone seemed to thoroughly enjoyed it with archers receiving a handout on competitions and hopefully lots of learning from the day. Everybody went home with medal and chocolate which is always a bonus!
This is part of our wider Eastern Area pathway – Coaching Days (grassroot level archers), Junior/Novice/Beginner League, Development Squad, Performance Squad and two teams to the Archery GB County Championships.Â
We would like to thank the Royal Company of Archers who provided funding which supported some of the costs of the league.
We are already looking forward to our next league event on the 2nd November.
