‘League Matches 1 & 2 have just passed, kicking off the start of the indoor season for students. League Match 1 was held on the 9th of November with archers shooting a Portsmouth round. There was a great turnout for the first competition, especially from novices across the universities.
The defending champions (Dundee) picked up first in the senior non-compound category with Strathclyde close behind. Grant McLellan (Strathclyde) was the top scorer with 577, and inches behind him was Alex Lai (Dundee) with 576. Strathclyde pulled ahead in the novice non-compound category and Heriot-Watt were hot on their trail with only a 5-point difference, and Edinburgh was at the top of the compound category.
League Match 2 was just the next week on the 16th of November with another Portsmouth round. This time Strathclyde made headway and placed first, with Dundee not far behind. For the novice team Heriot-Watt shot to the top, and once again Edinburgh was first for the compound teams. Huge thank you to Heriot-Watt, Aberdeen, and St Andrews for hosting the past two league matches.
Next up is a short break before League Match 3 on the 30th of November at Strathclyde and Dundee. The round for League Match 3 has been changed for this year, and for the first time ever it will be a Vegas 300. With only 30 arrows it’ll be a short round, but it’s bound to be a fun one, since the seniors will be shooting a triple face.’
Thanks for sharing Gabriella what has been happening in the student archery scene and thanks to you and the volunteer team for running these events.
Best of luck to the students competing in League Match 3.
