Clan Donald Tournament

Armadale Castle - Isle of Skye

The tournament is held in early in July in the grounds of Armadale Castle, about a mile from the old ferry terminal for Malaig on the mainland. Archers come from as far away as Holland and Jersey as well as many parts of England and Scotland.

The tournament is run over a week and includes a Double Fita, a Double Clout and a Double Field round capped off with a Ceilidh on the Friday evening. On Saturday morning, by tradition a Handicap round is shot, of course no-one has to rush off to catch the ferry these days. The holiday week celebrated its 30th Anniversary in 2009 and is organised by The Isle of Skye Committee.

The Competion

Skye Holiday Field CourseThe Double Fitas take place on the lawn in front of Armadale Castle at the Clan Donald Centre which has a splendid view across to the mainland. The Fitas are UK Record Status and also Scottish Thistle badges can be claimed.

The Clout takes place in the practice field, with a choice of 165 or 125 meters.

The Field course of marked distances is laid out in woodland behind the Clan Donald Lodges. The natural landscape lends itself to an interesting and enjoyable challenge for inexperinced and experienced field archer alike.

Of course taking part in any event is optional and the island itself offers many tourist attractions and scenery for a good day out.

As this shoot is run under GNAS insurance, only those archers who can show membership of GNAS, FITA. or equivalent will be permitted to shoot.
